Issue transformed

I've never really liked the word deserve. For me it lives in the world of black and white and just doesn't sit well. When someone says, "you really deserve this," or "you deserve better," does that mean someone else is less deserving? How is it measured?

I don't like the concept of having to do, say or being something in order to be deserving or worthy of it.

I've been trying to think of another word or phrase that I can use to replace this one, and was struggling with it. I kept coming back to Einstein's quote, “You can’t solve a problem at the same level of thinking that created it.” So if I was thinking in shades of gray and someone was celebrating something wonderful in their life, I would just simply say, "I'm so happy for you, how wonderful!" And that would be it, issue transformed :)
